Accessibility Statement

Last updated: October 2026 · africanmarketplace.ca

Inclusive African Marketplace (African Caribbean MarketPlace Canada Inc.) is committed to making our website and services usable for people with disabilities. We aim to conform with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA and applicable requirements under Ontario's Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) and the Accessible Canada Act, where they apply to our digital presence.

1. Measures we take

  • Semantic HTML, labels, and keyboard focus for core shopping, account, and checkout flows.
  • Text alternatives for meaningful images and icons where we control content.
  • Colour contrast and readable typography on primary templates and marketing pages.
  • Responsive layout for zoom and small screens.
  • Ongoing review of new features (Virtual Agent, vendor tools, dashboards) for accessibility regressions.

2. Known limitations

Some third-party content and tools may not fully meet our target level of accessibility, including:

  • Payment and identity verification flows hosted or styled by external providers.
  • Maps, embedded media, or documents uploaded by independent vendors.
  • Legacy PDFs or images supplied by sellers without alternative text.
  • Voice features in the Virtual Agent, which depend on browser speech APIs and user device settings.

We work with vendors and partners to improve these areas over time and welcome specific reports so we can prioritize fixes.

3. Assistive technology & preferences

Our site is designed to work with common assistive technologies (screen readers, screen magnification, voice control) and standard browser settings such as increased text size and reduced motion where supported by your browser and operating system.

4. Request an accommodation

If you need information in an alternate format, help completing an order, or assistance using any part of the marketplace, contact us and we will try to respond within five business days:

Please include the page URL, a short description of the barrier, and your preferred contact method. We may follow up for more detail to resolve the issue.

5. Feedback & continuous improvement

Accessibility is an ongoing effort. We review customer feedback, support tickets, and internal testing when we release major updates. Related policies: Privacy Policy · Terms of Service · Return & Refund Policy.

6. Formal complaints (Ontario)

If you are not satisfied with our response, you may contact the Ontario Human Rights Commission or, for organizations subject to AODA reporting, the Ontario accessibility standards resources. We encourage you to contact us first so we can try to resolve your concern directly.

Your privacy

We handle personal information under PIPEDA. Read our Privacy Policy for purposes, service providers, retention, and your rights (access, correction, withdrawal, complaints).
